Without sitting together and meditation is unusual way to meet today online. He will give hints on meditation in these 3 days. He will give a short introduction to good meditaiton and hope we can take advantage of it.
For meditaiton to be successful, effective we have to understand something very important. The most important hing is that to understand that the body does not meditate…its only used for meditation. How body sits matters on quality of meditation. The assumption is coning from that body is our reality and we cannot get out of it.
If we assume body is real we will stay in the body therefore its important to reverse our thinking that we are not the body we are using a body and we are life itself…that is Soul. We have in this room lights put on..it does not mean lamps are electricity…its coming and lighting all lamps…so electricity is not individuated! So we don’t understand soul and life itself. But when apply life in a body it looks like its individuated. Meditation is designed to go beyond the bodies. Most of us doing meditaiton today are doing it to relax the body and mind. And very often it gets to the point it makes us sleep! He played a cute goofy joke on him falling asleep during meditaiton. Meditation is to withdrawn from the body..sleep does it automatically.
When we sleep…there is something that happens to our awareness of where we are in the body. When we are awake where am I saying these things from, where am I located within the body..it does not take long to realize its between and behind the eyes. Important to know our contact with the world is through the 5 senses (seeing, hearing, tasting, smell and touch) all close to the head…they are centered around the head above the neck very small area. It looks like we are the head and rest of the body is attached to us. That is how its constructed. Body is being used by us in wakeful state from the top part only rest is attached to us so we can perform different functions to perform the head part. These centers we are talking of (6 chakras)- centers of energy…we need energy doing things. They control all our movements and life. To use our body top part we have centers located all over but that does not mean we live in the center of energy! They are not useful for understanding who we are as they are below us. Awareness is to know more!
Why can we not get real knowledge when we sleep? We are NOT behind the eyes when we sleep!!!
Notional feeling is we are behind the eyes disappear…Where exactly is this notional point when we go to sleep. Some yogis he practiced when we go to sleep…we are unaware of the body…we are still connected to the body but become unaware of the body and we think we have another other (dream body). If we realise we see anything with dream body…these eyes are moving (heard of the REM)- whenever we have visual dream we have Rapid Eye Movement. They move in sequence in what we watching in the dream. The visual experience in impacted on the physical eyes. Same rule applies to Astral and Casual bodies. Most of the time we completely forget that this is all one system working. When we have a dream..where we think we are in the body? We try touch our eyes when we sleep…not really…the yogis have practiced something like that…special kind of yoga to have connection with wakeful state even when we are half-asleep. In stead of touching eyes we touch our nose…that is because the notion of where we are operating is shifting downwards. To touch our eyes we touch our throat…the strange connection between dream sequence and this body is very significant as it means we are not always behind the eyes! In sleep we go to down. In dream its in our throat center. Its important thing to understand- where we are changes in the body depending on our state of awareness.
Is there any difference in sensory experience in throat center and in eye center? Big difference. In eye center pace things move different (slowly) than in dream state. In dream things pass in seconds…people have difference speeds of moving around in a dream and looks natural in dream. Laws of nature like gravity they are all being generated differently in dream and wakeful sequence. When we don’t dream the notional point where we aware moves further down. Knowledge at different chakras below generate different experience yogis have been trying to use traveling/ attention/ soul traveling of the self to these chakras to discover more of themselves…to understand nature of energy. The whole progress is in existing time and space and have no idea of there was no time and space. Therefore time and space is where created? He talked about his 60s days in Harvard University (27 min).
The spookiest thing Einstein found was nature of entanglement of particles where two particles interact with each other whilst being millions of miles apart. Where does space and time comes from? Yogis never went beyond space and time. Baba ji wants us to find out who we really are! HE asked to enjoy life (Wikki beach). Real meditaiton is to discovery what is our soul, what is life. Its not via focusing on energy centers below our head which only exist in time and space. The real meditation he learn from the master to transcend the mind and discover true nature of our own consciousness …who is creating everything and that does not lie in the six center. This body is only one body we soul is just wearing it…we wear many bodies. In dream state we wear different body. We hardly know its sleeping..sometime people have dreams where he knew he was dreaming…he would see himself sleeping in the bed. He jumped into bed and wake up…he discovered he woke up and he has not gone anywhere. So how he is entering body again? He also found the biggest surprised that the body he saw in which he jumped is not the body he woke up..the body he jumped in was the dream body!!! We cannot have access to experience of wakeful self so long we are in the dream self…still part of the dream. IT means we go into different state of consciousness a level of consciousness in physical body below the eyes to the throat is everything at that level and not at the higher level. It becomes important point what the connection between physical and astral self.
We can wake up to higher state to Astral an awareness where matter disappears, sense perception remains intact, thinking, sensing remains but matter disappears…big thing. Astral state is very similar as waking from dream state to physical body. A body is not ourselves. Astral, physical, and mental body are not ourselves. Life is ourselves, individuated souls is not ourselves…the totality of life one life total life is our reality. Imagine in real kind of meditation starting from physical body we can reach and realize the reality. He will try to taking into methodology of going into wakefulness. But stating point is most important. Don’t think body is ourselves! He talked about putting attention to have experience. We are body if we put attention on that body as we constantly identify ourselves with the body. We are just using physical body to localize ourselves a virtual experience…we call it real we have no other reality .
To get out of it first step- must know we are NOT the body! What is the body? He was wearing Nehru jacket…he knows jacket is outside him. Can he apply same with our body? Its difficult to think that we are wearing a body? Difficulty is I know who is wearing a jacket…it does not work with the body. No…we don’t know who is wearing the body. If we knew then we are already ‘awake’. Its a Catch 22/ 21. Body is a house living in..which has 6 floors (35min)…easy as energy centers are located and so our mind can imagine those levels working in the body. That imagination is more realistic. When we put ourselves imaginative self… a piece of furniture in our head…we lose the sense of our head. We can look via not these eyes at all…we can decorate the 6th floor with flowers..time spending imaginatively has already pulled us away that we are in the head. Step is to mere using imagination to generate space and time inside and in center of that place we take a chair, and sit on it…who is sitting there? Is it you or someone else? No one else there…who is calling for help ourselves….not the body at all. We realized we are never the body in that imagination and not confined to the head at all. What eyes are we looking at? These eyes are closed,what hands are moving furniture…where that body comes from? Imagination is generating a body that can see, touch ,s lee, touch , taste ,walk , talk…the more we act there…the less we become aare of this body and around it. What better method of withdrawal attention…but we created new scene without going anywhere. How can we do all that? Who is doing it? We have moved from that body to that state. Remember in meditation at any level we are going to use ourselves.
Starting point using in house is easier than imagining we are wearing a garment. The sixth floor we have an elevator…at back of the house is spinal elevator which moves to all levels. What is moving? Ourselves has gone by shifting with the attention…attention is the locomotive of the self. If we want to use physical body as an instrument of meditaiton to discover ourselves…first step is important to use imagination, attention. He talked about orange juice experience (53min) to learn how to move attention in this body. Another exercise is outside our self table is lying with a drink, snack, and flowers.
He emphasizes using attention as a spiritual tool, which is only part of awareness which we can control.
Attention to withdraw ourselves from the awareness of this body. It creates state that comes naturally win sleep. Sleeping takes attention down but deliberate use of attention holds the attention at that level pulls it backwards NOT downwards.
Step 1 learn to think,m imagine we are in body eyes closed, face inside. The video suddenly was lost around this time close to the end of today’s meditation session.
